Student council

The purpose of our student council is to actively involve students in the life of the school and give them a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their daily experience.

In a school of several hundred students, listening to everyone’s views can be challenging. The student council provides a structured and effective way to facilitate communication between students and staff, enabling young people to take responsibility for aspects of school life that were previously considered “out of bounds.”

The student council at Dixons Middleton Academy has been in operation for eleven years and continues to play a vital role in shaping our school community.

What does having a student council achieve?

A strong student council makes a positive contribution to all areas of school life. It helps to:

  • improve academic performance
  • reduce bullying and vandalism
  • decrease school exclusions
  • strengthen teacher - student relationships
